BOCO Gear Review

By | December 17, 2017

Disclaimer: I received a custom BOCO Gear visor and running trucker hat as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRavePro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review, find, and write race reviews!

BOCO Gear

BOCO Gear and BibRave have enjoyed a long-term partnership with much of the BibRave bright orange gear coming from BOCO.  Eventually, every BibRave Pro receives some kind of BOCO item to add to their collection and review.  And, yayyy, it was my turn to test both a brand new head visor and running hat.

BOCO are an athletic gear company born in Boulder, Colorado.  Hence the name BOCO.  They specialize in high quality or premium gear for runners, cyclists, triathletes, and general outdoor enthusiasts.  Their focus is on head-gear including visors, cycling hats, running hats, cold weather hats, and headbands.  I also noticed a couple of utility bags and belts on the main store page along with close to 100 unique items.  Another key component of their business line is customization.  As mentioned, BibRave contract with BOCO to make our bright orange running accessories but they have almost limitless options for custom individual and team apparel.

Hat and Visor

I opted in for the opportunity to test out both the BOCO signature visor along with the technical Trucker running hat.  Customized for team BibRave the colors are bright and bold and certainly help us stand out when representing at various race events.  I prefer running in a visor and I often pick up one when they are available at a race expo.  The bright orange was a welcome addition to the collection.

The BOCO visor stands out for it’s quality.  The material is soft and comfortable.  The band is an elastic form that stretches nicely around the head.  No need to worry about changing length or fiddling with little clasps that come apart after a couple of trips to the laundry.

For running, the visor is one of the most comfortable that I own.  The underside of the bill reduces glare and the band does not interfere with my shades or earphones.  The color and design is very striking and meets all my needs for a running visor.

Per the website some of the features of the 360° Visor®include:

  • Lightweight wicking woven or dry tech polyester outside
  • Wicking internal sweatband to move sweat from your forehead
  • Soft brushed elastic back for comfort and fit
  • Relaxed fit front panel for a better performance and comfort
  • Sublimated designs now extend 360 degrees for an updated look
  • Black underside of the bill to reduce glare
  • Curved bill
  • Men’s and women’s sizing
  • Machine washable

I also tested the Trucker style hat.  These have become more popular in recent years.  Not quite the standard running cap, these hats have a mesh style side fabric with an over-sized brim.  Again, I like the form and function.  The brim can be formed to lift up or curved and tilted down.  The design and quality, like the visor, is of the highest standard.  Overall, the hat is comfortable and lightweight for general use.  I did run in it to test but I tend to overheat quickly with a full hat and prefer the visor except for the coldest of conditions.  You can see from the picture below during my run test that it was a cold day but I’m building up quite a sweat.

BOCO Store

The BOCO online store easy to navigate with products being organized in several product categories.  There are menus available to view products by function such running, cycling, triathlon, cold weather etc.  The product designs are bright and bold.  Price ranges are well within expected range for this type of product.

The list of featured partner clients is impressive and includes Ragnar, Hoka One One, IronMan, Cervela, Cliff Bar, and Gu…in addition to BibRave of course 🙂

Verdict

Comfortable and high quality material.  Moisture wicking, machine washable, and durable make these products a leader in category.  The visor, in particular, has immediately become a favorite in my collection.  Whether you are looking for a new running hat/visor/headband for yourself or you need to shop for your local running or cycling club, it is well worth your time to pay a visit to the BOCO gear store.

Great review James! Yes, I too liked how the visor does not interfere with my shade nor headphones! I haven’t tried the trucker hat yet… perhaps that’s next. 😄

Yeah, the visor is great. The trucker hat was fine in terms of quality, I just don’t typically run with a full hat unless it’s below freezing, then I usually grab my worn out beanie!

Thank you Donna! I’ve got so many visors I really need to stop buying them but this one is definitely a favorite!
