Luvo Food Review

Introducing Luvo

Over the course of my first year as a BibRave Pro, I’ve got to test a lot of cool running products and gadgets.  My latest (and final) product test of 2017 is a bit on the tasty side 🙂  Nutrition is key to any fitness program and overall wellness regime.  But, a challenge to maintaining overall food goodness is finding the time, especially when facing a daily calendar crunch.  Introducing Luvo foods – an organization whose mission is to provide viable food solutions without compromising quality.

Before I get into the specifics of my flavorful feedback, a word from the formalities department…

Disclaimer: I received some Luvo meals to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out to review, find, and write race reviews.

All The Food

Depending on your region, you may well have seen the Luvo foods at your local grocer.  There is a useful store locator on the Luvo website where you can search for a retailer in the US or Canada.  To add to the convenience, Luvo also offer a delivery service.  For the purposes of this test, we were instructed to use the online store to order our meal selections.  This provided a useful test opportunity to review the online store and the effectiveness of the shipping and delivery.  Ordering online also provides access to all the food selections as opposed to maybe a more limited selection at the grocery store.

The online store is simple to navigate.  Food selections with ingredients are displayed in boxed format with a rollover that shows the meal served on plate or in bowl.  It took me less than 10 mintues to fill my online cart with a variety of food options, including some of the newly launched bowls.

My selections included Chicken Enchilladas, Roasted Cauliflower Mac and Cheese, Chicken Chile Verde, Orange Mango Chicken, and Hawaiin Unfried Rice amongst others.

I received a prompt order confirmation and another email when my order had shipped within 24 hours.

3 days after I placed my order…the food cache arrived.  Everything was still fully frozen and in perfect condition.

The Luvo website provides some nice overviews of their nutritional philosophy.  There is also an informative food blog with recipes and advice for incorporating healthy ingredients into our daily lives.  I’m not about to simply repeat all of that here, but I like the section that outlines their approach.  It’s simple to follow and effective.

Our philosophy on nutrition is built upon a fact-based approach that is supported by credible 3rd party organizations like the World Health Organization and the Harvard School of Public Health. Our goal is to make it easy for people to eat for optimal health so we can reduce the burden of preventable health conditions. There are many studies which show that what you eat can have a great impact on your overall health. To keep it simple, we’ve boiled it down into what we call 3-2-None. These are the guiding principles we use to create our wholesome, delicious meals.

And, those simple guidelines:

3 – the right balance of proteins/whole grains/veggies

2 – not too much added sodium or sugar

none – no artificial flavors or sweeteners

While not being a dietary guru by any means, I can relate to that premise.

Taste Testing

I performed most of my taste tests during lunch.  And, mostly in the office.  This allowed me to evaluate portability, preparation, taste, and my overall hunger/energy levels throughout the day.  My office days are typically very long often involving back to back to back meetings and presentations all day.  Lunch is usually at my desk prepping for the next review or working my project plans.  At Starbucks, we are not, however, short on kitchens!  So reheating and prep is not an issue – we have over 35 kitchens in our office alone!

Over the course of 3-4 weeks, I ate my way through my selection and enjoyed just about every meal that I sampled.  I had some clear favorites – for me the Cauliflower Mac and Cheese was the winner.  Amazing taste, healthy goodness, with just a little kick.  The enchiladas, barbecue chicken, and chicken chile verde were also big winners.

I absolutely could pick out the quality of the ingredients.  The power grain bowls were tasty and filling.  The lack of sodium and sugar was clearly noticeable.  There was a nice blend of spices in most of the dishes and Luvo are certainly not afraid to kick it up a notch 🙂

Luvo foods are a great choice for a filling and nutritional meal solution.  Luvo meals provide a very nice option to maintain a healthy and balanced diet.  Ingredients are high quality and the power grain bowls are especially filling.  I had no qualms with any of the meals that I sampled and I will be looking to Luvo to keep some variety in my lunchtime routine.  Luvo foods provide a viable solution for the time crunched athlete or the culinary challenged with healthy food options that provide nutrition and energy.

Code BIBCHAT will save you 10% on your online order if you want to try a sample.  There are also additional offers and discounts available on the Luvo store and through their social media outlets.

I did not receive any financial compensation for this review and all opinions rendered are my own based on my personal testing experience.

  • Have you ever tried Luvo…any thoughts?
  • Do you have a favorite go-to nutritional lunch when you’re in a hurry?

‘Till next time,

Run safe, run strong, run happy!
